An old world tea dating back to the Eastern Han Dynasty in China.
Known as the "broad leaf tea", its leaves come from the Camellia
sinensis var. assamica plant. The chemical composition of these leaves
are different from the regular variety, altering the taste and aroma of
the brewed tea. Pu'erh is usually found in a compressed form, such as a
tea cake or brick, and is known for its ability to age well, giving it a
darker color and more mellow flavor. Research shows that pu'erh
reduces blood cholesterol levels and helps with the unpleasant effects of
heavy alcohol consumption.
